DNA barcoding is a useful tool for informing taxonomic studies. Over the past seven years, we have compiled a DNA database of the Australian Trichoptera, which includes over 1600 sequences from around 220 species. These data have been made publically available on the Aquatic Invertebrates of Australia (AIA) DNA database, through the Barcode Of Life Database.
The data have highlighted groups that contain cryptic diversity. These are likely to undergo future taxonomic changes. However, some groups have genetic delineations that are not distinct and interpretation remains difficult. In this presentation I will discuss these findings and issues as well as provide an overview of the AIA database.
