Dr Virginia Marshall Virginia is Principal Solicitor in her rural firm, Triple BL Legal, providing services for disadvantaged communities and vulnerable individuals, and remote Aboriginal communities. Volunteering her time over the last decade with the NSW Law Society committees (Human Rights, Law & Legal Practice, Indigenous Issues & ADR), as Magistrate for the Society’s Mock Trial Competition and Mentor for women law students & lawyers. Virginia left high school at year 10. She completed six degrees in five and half years, former Associate/Indigenous Researcher Federal Court, Senior Legal Officer (ALRC) & criminal defence lawyer. A pioneer scholar in Aboriginal water rights, her doctoral thesis (law) won the Stanner Award (best national thesis) and the book published in February 2017 “Overturning aqua nullius”, preface by the Hon. Michael Kirby. She has been named ‘Distinguished Women Scholar’ 2018 by the University of Victoria Canada and give public lectures on Aboriginal water rights.
